George, I have always said that writing and politics are two sides of the same coin. As David Manning once exclaimed, "Writing and politics go hand in hand!" Like milk and cookies. Like love and marriage. Like glaciers and earthquakes. Diamonds are a girl's best friend. Save the whales. Actually, I haven't ALWAYS said that. In fact, I've never said that. To tell you the truth, creative writing and politics have virtually nothing in common. But if there's one man that can build a bridge over the angry waters between these two foreign lands -- then that man of political wizardry is Mark Warner! ![]() But seriously folks. When you really think about it, politics and creative writing have much in common. They both can be draining and unusually painful. They can also be quite rewarding. The reward of the writer lies in his audience -- how the readers will accept his work and whether he successfully touches someone with his message. Just like creative writing, the reward of the politician lies in his constituents -- how the voters will accept his views and whether he successfully touches someone with his beliefs. ![]() I have complete faith that Mark Warner will represent his constituents well.
