George: Any Democrat who complains that Creigh Deeds hasn't talked about important issues needs to look at the record. In the 2001 General Assembly session, Creigh sponsored 23 bills, and had 10 of them passed. Many of the bills that were passed were technical things, of relatively little importance to most of us -- things like changing the way in which law suits get served, or allowing someone to sue another person who is stalking him or her. But I was particularly impressed with the bills that Creigh sponsored that did NOT pass. They show me that he is someone who is trying to raise important issues. Maybe they didn't pass in 2001, but they might in 2002 or 2003. Consider: HB 1640 -- to cut the sales tax on cars running on clean fuels or on electricity HB 1665 -- to help the elderly and disabled pay for prescription drugs HB 1784 -- to limit campaign contributions to candidates for the General Assembly HB 2222 -- to prohibit confidential lawsuit settlement agreements HB 2753 -- to eliminate the sales tax on food HB 2837 -- to stop the Governor from giving sweetheart severance packages to his friends HB 2838 -- to provide for an audit whenever a state project runs over budget by more than 10% This is the kind of person I want representing me. Lloyd Snook (electronic mail, December 5, 2001).
