George, What is Jane Maddux running from? Her refusal on a number of occasions to meet and discuss the issues that are important to the voters of the 25th senatorial district is most disturbing. She initially accepted but then refused to agree to the dates picked by the League of Women Voters and WINA for a debate/forum. It was originally scheduled and advertised for December 4, and then rescheduled for December 13th, only to be cancelled again by the Maddux camp. The date and time for this debate had been set by November 5th, even before either candidate was nominated. While the nature of this special election gives each candidate a very short time frame to run for the office, Creigh Deeds was willing to be at either forum because he knows the importance of giving the electorate information about his views so that they can make an informed choice. He is juggling his duties as a father and husband, busy practicing attorney, and member of the House of Delegates, and was still willing and eager to meet with Ms. Maddux in a public forum to talk about issues of importance to the voters. When the slogan is Run Jane Run you have to wonder why she has ducked this opportunity ![]() and is running away from meeting with her opponent and the public she claims to want to serve. Will Harvey (electronic mail, December 5, 2001).
