George:

I would like to point out the reason that we have an "entrance fee" for the nomination for the 25th District State Senate seat. It will cost us at least $1,500 to put on the convention, and depending on how much the ads cost, it could cost more. There is no "25th Senatorial District" bank account; whatever we spend on this has to be raised somewhere. Hence the entrance fee.

And I would surmise that anyone wanting to run for this seat is going to have to raise and spend at least $100,000, so $500 is of little consequence.

I hope that Bill Davis' comment about running as an independent was intended as a joke, because if he does run as an independent, he will lose his seat on the City Democratic Committee, as will anyone who supports him. We forgave some lapses in discipline in the past, because we did not have bylaws that clearly stated what the rules were. Now we do, and Bill should know them. I hope that he will join us at the Convention on November 10 (no entrance fee).
