George:

I just got off the phone with Creigh Deeds, who tells me that he was in Albemarle County last night. He didn't say with whom, and I didn't ask. Creigh is apparently meeting discreetly with Democrats, and that is as it should be.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again.

I want nothing to distract from the November 6 election. I recognize that candidates feel that they have to start getting their names out, but I have strongly suggested that we not schedule more get-togethers, meetings, or anything else until after November 6.

If good Democrats have the time to come to meetings about the Senatorial seat, they should be spending that time to make phone calls to get favorable voters to the polls, or they should be putting up yard signs, or they should be
knocking on doors to persuade their neighbors who support Warner to support Kaine and McEachin as well.

This is not intended as a backdoor criticism of anyone who has made his or her intentions known; so far, folks have been respectful of the need to win on November 6.

Let's hope that continues.

Lloyd Snook (electronic mail, October 29, 2001).
