At 7:30 p.m. at the January 22, 2002 meeting of the Charlottesville City Council, there will be a public forum on the budget. The City is facing significantly increased costs and declining revenues in the next fiscal year, and City Council would like to hear from the public about how to address this situation in next year's budget. Some of the issues Council would like to hear from the public about include: 1. Council priorities (East end mall and bus transfer center/urban design and sidestree improvements; Jefferson School redevelopment; Water Street redevelopment; Advance Meadowcreek Parkway design, including interchanges at Route 250 and great McIntire linear partk; Phase 1 of court facilities development; E-government; Partner with the school division to develop a means for dramatically improving school achievement and develop key resources for doing so; Develop list of transportation priorities; Develop market rate housing benchmarks and goals, including resources, progress and quality) 2. Increasing the trash sticker fees to cover increased costs of the Ivy Landfill, trash disposal, and recycling; 3. Increasing E-911 charges; and 4. Increasing the automobile decal fee to pay for alternative transportation. The public is invited to participate in the budget forum in any of the following ways: 1) Speak at the meeting (speakers will be limited to 2 minutes each); Call 970-3101 during the meeting; or 3) Log on to the City's web site at www.charlottesville.org (resident's page) and express your views on the on-line forum beginning on January 15 (Jeanne Cox, City Council Agenda, fax, January 15, 2002).
