As of January 11, 2002, the House Militia, Police and Public Safety Docket included:

Albert Pollard's HB 119 One handgun a month purchase limitation bill providing "that the one-handgun-a-month purchase limitation does not apply to a person who trades in a handgun at the same time he makes a handgun purchase and as a part of the same transaction"

and

Karen Darner's HB 132 Establishment of gun-free zones; penalty bill providing "that any school division may establish a "gun-free school zone" encompassing the physical boundaries of the school property and areas under exclusive use by the school division, provided that the local governing body has adopted an ordinance enabling the school division to establish such zones. The bill also provides that any person who knowingly possesses any firearm while within a gun-free school zone is guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor"

and

Mitch Van Yahres' HB 155 State employees called to active military service bill requiring "the Commonwealth to supplement the military pay of any state employee ordered to active duty in the (i) armed forces of the United States, or (ii) in the organized reserve forces of any of the armed services of the United States or of the Virginia National Guard. The bill requires such supplement to be an amount equal to the difference between his military pay, including any allowances and the amount such individual would have earned as a state employee during such period of military service"

Since that time, the House Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee has received

Richard Black's HB 604 Carrying Concealed Weapons bill which provides "that a valid concealed handgun permit or license issued by another state shall be valid in the Commonwealth and removes minimum requirements of other states"

and

Lee Ware's HB 952 Concealed handguns; restricted in restaurants bill prohibiting "the carrier of a concealed handgun in a public place to consume alcohol or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs and eliminates the restriction on licensed, concealed handguns in restaurants that serve alcohol"

and

James Almand's HB 958 Carrying weapon into State Capitol; penalty bill which "provides that any person who possesses in or transports into the State Capitol Building or the General Assembly Building any (i) gun or other weapon designed or intended to propel a missile or projectile of any kind, (ii) frame, receiver, muffler, silencer, missile, projectile or ammunition designed for use with a dangerous weapon and (iii) any other dangerous weapon, is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor"

and

Kevin Melvin's HB 1058 Carrying concealed weapons bill which provides "that any person otherwise eligible, if he is a member of the United States armed forces, may apply for a concealed handgun permit in the county or city in which he is domiciled even though he may be a resident of another state"

and

Robert Hull's HB 1355 Dangerous weapons in a recreation or community center; penalty bill which allows "the governing body of any county with an urban county executive form of government to adopt an ordinance making the possession of a dangerous weapon in a publicly owned recreation or community center a Class 1 (or less) misdemeanor. Exceptions are included for law enforcement personnel and court personnel."
