KEY DATES PROPOSED FOR THE 2002 GENERAL ASSEMBLY SESSION

Prepared by Ben Greenberg, Director of Government Relations of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, based upon the calendar discussed by the Joint Rules Committee on October 25, 2001

January 9th: Prefiling of bills ends at 10:00 a.m.; General Assembly convenes at noon; Governor Gilmore gives his State of the Commonwealth address at 7:00 p.m.

January 11th: All requests for bill drafts must be received by the Division of Legislative Services by 5:00 p.m.; All bills and joint resolutions creating or continuing a study must be filed by 5:00 p.m.

January 12th: Inauguration of Governor Warner.

January 14th: Governor Warner to address the General Assembly.

January 18th: All bills and joint resolutions must be filed by 5:00 p.m.

February 12th: Crossover Day: Each house to finish its own legislation except Budget Bill(s), and appropriation, debt, revenue and VRS bills.

February 17th: Committees responsible for the Budget Bill(s) to finish work by midnight.

February 19th: Amendments on the Budget Bill(s) to be available by noon.

February 21st: Houses of introduction to complete work on Budget Bill(s).

February 27th: Last day for each house to act on the budget and revenue bills of the other house and appoint conferees by midnight.

March 4th: Last day for committees to act on all legislation.

March 7th: Last day for bills to be put in conference; conference reports on Budget Bill(s) to be available by noon.

March 8th: Only conference reports and certain joint resolutions may be considered.

March 9th: Sine die: session ends.

April 17th: Reconvened session to consider Governor's vetoes and recommended amendments.

December 9th: Last day for committees to act on continued legislation.
