Downing --

Just wanted to mention that the Sierra Club has actually been public about their opposition to the Meadowcreek Parkway -- they've given both moral and material support (they applied to their regional office to let STAMP do a mailing to their membership which they paid for, *and* they took our entire dossier and ran it by their legal department and agreed that *if* STAMP undertook a lawsuit against the MCP they would join us. So, they are the only environmental group that has been true to environmental principles regardless where the damage will occur.

Editor's Note: In May 1999, a Sierra Club official "urged parkway opponents to attack and humiliate Charlottesville City Council members who vote to build the road."

In February 2000, the Sierra Club held a City Council Candidate's Forum on the Meadowcreek Parkway.

In April 2000, the Sierra Club endorsed both Maurice Cox and Kevin Lynch for the Charlottesville City Council, in part because of their opposition to Meadowcreek Parkway.
