George,

If we're going all out for war, Selective Service is the fairest plan. I remember how unfair service was during the Vietnam War when those who chose higher ed could evade service. Also, it's a way of hitting a lot of people where they live if they are confronted with the cruel reality of being a soldier or sailor. Most Americans have no present realization of what it means to be at war.

My big worry is not about today's outrages as much as it is about worrying if we'll have an election in 2004 for President or if we will simply keep the Bushies in office and not change horses in the middle of the stream. The accrual of total power in the executive is terrifying.
