[According to the Family Policy Network, the] CHARLOTTESVILLE SCHOOL BOARD VOTES ON WHETHER TO SANCTION IMMORAL BEHAVIOR THIS THURSDAY This Thursday, August 3, the Charlottesville School Board will vote on two controversial changes to school policy. The meeting will take place at Charlottesville High School at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. (Attendees need not be city residents to attend or speak.) One of the changes would alter the school system's Code of Student Conduct to prohibit "jokes" and/or "harassment" of others on the basis of their "sexual orientation." The other proposal would alter the school system's employment guidelines to forbid "discrimination" on the basis of "sexual orientation." OBJECTIONS AND CONCERNS: There are a number of concerns that Charlottesville School Board members apparently overlooked when they gave their initial approval to the proposed changes with regard to sexual orientation. While no one wants to be unfair or unloving to anyone, it is inappropriate to establish boundaries around illegal and/or immoral behavior and protect such behavior from diverse opinions using the force of law. On prohibiting discrimination on basis of "sexual orientation": Moral behavior should be a critical prerequisite for employment to teach
children. The term "sexual orientation" is vague, and is subject
to abuse. On prohibiting jokes/harassment on basis of "sexual orientation": Charlottesville Schools already have a prohibition against all types of harassment. Unless every reason is enumerated (acne, dress, musical preference, weight, etc.), sexual orientation should not be singled out in the policy. Adding "sexual orientation" grants special status. Adding a "sexual orientation" clause to the existing policy will only serve to legitimize deviant sexual behavior. School policies should protect the diversity of moral opinions and values of all teachers, parents and students without having to single out sexual behavior for special status. Homosexual activists claim that statements warning them of the proven health consequences of homosexual sex acts constitute harassment. (NOTE: The International Journal of Epidemiology has proven that young men engaging in sodomy by age 20 have only a 50% chance of living to see age 65. The average American male lives to age 79. WHAT YOU CAN DO: 1. Forward this information 1. Forward this information to friends in Charlottesville. 2. Pray. Ask God to grant the School Board members wisdom to see that these changes will only endorse a perverse lifestyle that leads to heartache, disease and often early death. 3. Attend the Charlottesville School Board meeting at Charlottesville High School on August 3, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. (Directions are listed at the bottom of this page. For further instructions, call 245-2400.) 4. Voice your opposition at the School Board meeting Thursday. To do so, simply attend the meeting on Thursday night, August 3, at Charlottesville High School. See the Clerk of the School Board, Mr. W. T. Lewis, to get your name on the list to address the proposals. He will give you instructions on when to speak. 5. Email the members of the Charlottesville School Board to politely express your opinion on this issue.
