Hi George -- I can certainly see many reasons to support the policy of the New Orleans school board to drop slave-owners' names from public schools. But does this mean that we will also remove the names of men who have abused women and children and treated them like property in the past? I have a vision of a lot of nameless buildings. The point I am trying to make is that I would rather see the inequities in this world righted than these token efforts to make up for past wrongs whose basis (people as property) still continue on today. Thanks. Linda Martin (electronic mail, February 20, 2000)
