The Merry Pranksters were afoot late into the evening of May 11th to bring Never Never Land back to Tandem Friends School's campus -- creating "a topsy turvy world" for everyone to enjoy. Students and parents were greeted the next morning with "mischief and magic" and all varieties of fun.
On May 12th, I asked members of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Community to identify the car, saying who it belongs to and where exactly it was parked. The prize was a cup of coffee and a piece of apple pie with ice cream at the Nook Restaurant on the Downtown Mall. The small white car below belongs to beloved English teacher Denny Burnette and was briefly parked inside Tandem's Community Hall (blithely reminiscent of a police car once found parked on the dome of M.I.T.).
Blair Williamson correctly guessed that the car was parked at Tandem (electronic mail, May 23, 2000), but did not guess whose car it was or exactly where it was parked. Nonetheless, she gets the coffee and apple pie. I am still offering a hamburger from the Nook or tofu, if you prefer, from Foods of All Nations if someone can provide me with a picture of the car inside the community hall (suitable for posting on my web site). To collect, send your response to george@loper.org. The only thing more spectacular than Senior Prank Day is Tandem Friends School's Senior Graduation on Saturday, June 3rd at 1 p.m. -- an event not to be missed. Congratulations to the Tandem Graduating Class of 1999-2000. If you live in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area and have pranks you are proud of, please send them to george@loper.org and the most representative will be posted with full attribution. [See also, pranks by young Al Gore.] To date, examples of local pranks have been received from former Tandem
Board member Rey Barry.
