You can get full information from the RWSA web site. Thursday, May 2: There will be a Charlottesville City Council Candidates Forum at 7 p.m. at Zion Union Baptist Church on 1015 Preston Avenue. Saturday, May 4: There will be a Peace and Justice Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the lawn of the Albemarle County Office Building at Preston and McIntire and the public is invited. Speakers include Ed Wayland, Fouad Fadil, Heena Reiter, Robert Fatton, David Waldner, Nouradeen Durkee and more.. Musicians include Devon, Danny Schmidt, Tiger Lily, Debbie Hunter, the Blue Ridge Irish Music School and more. Sunday, May 5: World Laughter Tour, Inc., whose slogan is "Think Globally, Laugh Locally", has in association with Laughter Clubs International declared the first Saturday of May to be World Laughter Day. This year people will gather in groups of various sizes on May 6, throughout the world to laugh and support one of the aims of the club: "To bring people together and promote events that bring everlasting peace through laughter." There are, presently, only 4 people certified by the organization to teach its laughing techniques in Virginia. Monday, May 6: The 5th District Democratic Convention - called to select a nomination for Congressional seat currently held by Virgil Goode - will occur on Saturday, May 18, 2002 in Chatham, Virginia - just North of Danville. Charlottesville has been allocated 15 delegate slots (plus some alternates), while Albemarle County has been allocated 30 delegate slots (plus alternates). The deadline to preregister with the city/county chair to become a delegate is May 6, 2002. Wednesday, May 8: Commuter Information and the Virginia Chapter of the American Lung Association of Virginia will sponsor the 12th Annual "Give Air A "Brake" Day on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Community leaders, legislators and special guests will be on hand to provide information, remarks, demonstrations and entertainment. The free event will be staged one block east of Central Place on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia. On Give Air A "Brake" Day, commuters may ride CTS and the Big Blue Express for free. Employees in carpools may park for free at the Water and Market Street parking garages. Commuters using any mode of alternative transportation may enter a random drawing for great gifts donated by local merchants. Employees that have not entered the random drawing through their place of employment may by stop by the Commuter Information booth on Give Air A "Brake" Day. The Grand Prize is $500 plus a Weekend Getaway at the Brierly Bed & Breakfast in Lexington, Virginia. Winners will be announced during WQMZ's live radio remote.
