Today, while many ceremonies around the country commemorated the dead of this day, I paused to praise and remember the several thousand educators- teachers, administrators, secretaries, aides, cafeteria workers, custodians, and bus drivers- who shepherded thousands of children to safety, fed cared for them 'til their parents could come to get them or word could be gotten to family in the cases of tragedy, and in the days after, tended to the emotional and physical needs of these children even when they had experienced lose themselves. Say a word of recognition and appreciation to these valiant souls in Virginia, DC, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. They are heroes , too.
