Dear George,

Writing in response to Ms. Coles response.

I am , of course, in total agreement with her, and in my prior e-mail I meant to mock those who criticize the performance, not those who give it. But perhaps all's well - her passionate retort of my e-mail was the e-mail I would like to have written had I more intelligence available than to just be sarcastic.

The reality of the suffering endured by the ancestors of many African American citizens of America clearly should be revisited. The only dilemma is that the individuals who should have seen the performance to be reminded of the inhumanity of slavery and torture were unavailable: Mr. Cheney, Mr. Rumsfeld, and Mr. Bush. These are men who would have you believe that torture is Christian.

I regret that my satire was not clear enough for Ms. Coles, but I thank her for the reply. It was straight to the point I was trying to make.

Yours,
Joe Clancy (electronic mail December 20, 2004)
