According to The Daily Progress, "Albemarle County Police are looking for information related to a vandalism spree at Monticello High School's track and football field.

Someone climbed behind the wheel of a backhoe at the school, and drove it down the football field, knocking over both goalposts, digging holes in the field and running over chairs set up for graduation.

The machine was left on top of a pile of broken chairs.

Sgt. Scott Cox said the graduation ceremony, which was held as scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, was moved to the school's gymnasium.

Police believe the incident occurred sometime between 3 and 5 a.m. Saturday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (434) 977-4000 or (434) 296-5807." (In Brief, The Daily Progress, June 6, 2004).

"Additionally, Monticello High School and its Boosters Club put out a press release today offering a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of those involved in the vandalism." (Julie Stavitski, electronic mail, June 8, 2004)
