Yoshino Blossoms, The Tidal Basin, Washington, D.C., March 26, 2004

"In 1912, Japan gave 3,020 [cherry] trees of 12 varieties to the United States as a symbol of peace between the nations. This year the blooms are projected to peak around the Tidal Basin from April 2 to April 4." (The Washington Post, March 26, 2004)

A stroll around the Tidal Basin will lead you to paddle boats, the Jefferson Memorial, the FDR Memorial, a Japanese pagoda and the Stene Lantern.

Last year, the event attracted approximately 800,000 visitors and this year it could rise upward to a million.

The Cherry Blossom Festival runs from March 27 through April 11th. The National Cherry Blossom Festival Fireworks Show begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 10th at the Southwest Waterfront.
