Monday, October 3: Virginia Wine Talk with Brian and Bill, a new radio program designed to serve as a guide to the Virginia wine industry. Hosted by Professor Brian Pusser and Chef Bill Curtis of Tastings of Charlottesville, this monthly program answers questions about wine from the Old Dominion and beyond.

The program will be made available through the Virginia Wine Talk website at http://www.cvillepodcast.com/winetalk/ as well as through the Tastings of Charlottesville website, http://www.tastingsofcville.com. It will also be available through iTunes, joining the ranks of other podcasts about wine.

Saturday, October 8th, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Charlottesville Neighborhood Design Day. The City of Charlottesville is hosting simultaneous meetings in six neighborhood locations to get feedback on the City's Comprehensive Plan. More information will be available on the Charlottesville Design Center website soon.

Sunday, October 9: (Live broadcast 7:00 - 8:00 pm) The University of Virginia Center for Politics (CFP) and NBC 12 (WWBT-Richmond), will host a televised debate featuring candidates for governor of Virginia in October. Mr. Kaine and Mr. Kilgore have agreed to participate in a debate to be moderated by Larry J. Sabato, Director of the U.Va. Center for Politics. The broadcast will be carried live on WVIR TV29 in Charlottesville.

Monday, October 10: 7:15 at the Charlottesville Ice Park City Democratic Party meeting. (Others welcome). Focus: the elections.

Aaron Ver from the Coordinated Campaign will discuss the results from the canvassing they've done over the past 4 months (his staff and our volunteers have gone to several thousand homes and made many more phone calls).

Thursday, October 13: 7:00 pm Open Dialogue on the Elected School Board Referendum. Trinity Episcopal Church. Speakers will include UVA Professor Jeffrey Rossman, speaking in favor of the proposition; former Albemarle County school board and board of supervisors member Charles Martin, speaking against it; and City Registrar Sheri Iachetta to answer questions on the process required by the Justice Department if the proposition passes. The topic will be the imminent Virginia statewide elections, with a presentation by Joshua Scott of UVa's Center for Politics followed by Q&A. Saturday, October 22: 10:00 am Tim Kaine at HQ to help to kick off lit drops for the Joint Campaign. 300 West Main St., Charlottesville (you can park at the Main Street Market). Volunteers are needed to help distribute literature for Democratic candidates, local and statewide, in the city of Charlottesville, for the next three weekends.

Saturday shifts 10 -1, 1-4. Sundays 12-3, 3-6. All groups assemble at the HQ. Maps, directions will be provided. Further information: 295 1405.

Saturday, October 22: 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm Community Art Fund Benefit for Children Youth & Family Services at McGuffey Art Center. Catering by HotCakes and music by the famous Art Wheeler, with singing by Helaine Fontaine. Tickets for the party are $25 single, $40 couple. Our signature artist this year is Richard Crozier, eminent art professor at the University of Virginia, and we are selling $20 signed prints of his artwork, which come along with a raffle ticket to win an original Crozier oil painting, or other prizes. All proceeds from art and ticket sales go directly to Children Youth & Family Services, an over 80 year old social services organization in Charlottesville.
