Thursday, September 1: The Interfaith Gay/Straight Alliance will meet September 1 at 6:00 pm for a brown bag dinner and meeting at the Friends Meeting House at 1104 Forest St. We invite people of all ages, backgrounds, and faiths to join us.

The Interfaith Gay/Straight Alliance (IGSA) is a faith-based group whose broad mission is to win full civil rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer persons and their families. We aim to:

* inform members of our community of the legal and social discrimination currently experienced by LGBTQ persons,
* persuade our local communities and government representatives at all levels to cease discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and to legalize marriage by same-sex couples
* offer support and resources to local faith communities and congregations, and to their LGBTQ members.

Friday, September 2: Ben Greenberg will be showing his photography at the Angelo jewelry store on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall for the months of September and October. The show is entitled "Where Land and Water Meet: Photographs by Ben Greenberg".

There will be an opening reception this Friday, September 2nd from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This will be part of the First Friday event in Charlottesville.

"Where Land and Water Meet" will feature color landscape photographs that illustrate the variety of ways in which water intersects with the land through oceans, lakes, rivers and waterfalls. Included are some of the more dramatic examples of the meeting of land and water Ben has searched out and captured on film in recent years in Virginia and across the nation.

Thursday, September 8: The next meeting of the Monticello Bird Club will be on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. in the Education Building, Ivy Creek Natural Area, Earlysville Road, Charlottesville, Virginia. The program will be “Birds of Prey”: A slide show presentation by Reese Lukei on hawks and other raptors -- their habits and habitat, their food, how to identify them, and where and when to go to observe them.

Saturday, September 17: 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. The first annual "Red White and Bluegrass BBQ Festival," sponsored by the Greene County Democratic Committee, will be held at the county fairgrounds on Rte. 230. Roy Dye, chair of the Democratic Party Committee, said, "Our committee members voted overwhelmingly to donate these proceeds to the victims of the hurricane on the Gulf Coast. Friday, September 23: The Amtrak "Crescent", which runs from New Orleans (but will now be starting in Meridian, Mississippi because of the hurricane) to Washington DC, is being celebrated as "The Peace Train" by the Louisiana Activist Network. The Peace Train will be picking up activists from over the South to the "End the War In Iraq March" on Sept 24 in Wahington DC.

The Peace Train is scheduled to stop in Charlottesvill at 7:07 AM..COME OUT AND GREET THE TRAIN, share coffee and breakfast treats and celebrate with the Peace Train riders on their way to the Mobilization in D.C.
