Friday, December 1: 5:00 - 8:00 pm. The Charlottesville Community Design Center (CCDC) is pleased to announce a second "First Friday" reception for its exhibit: What is Sustainability? City, County, UVA & You. The exhibit details practices and programs within our area's three largest institutions: City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County governments, and the University of Virginia, that are striving for sustainability. In addition, we'll have practical information for area residents on how to improve indoor air quality, lower utility bills and reduce environmental impact--all at the same time! On the Charlottesville Downtown Mall at 101 East Main.

Monday, December 4: 6:30-8:30 pm Planned Parenthood Movie Night for Current and Prospective Volunteers Jefferson Madison Regional Library Downtown Branch, McIntire Room.

Current and potential volunteers are invited to a screening of the PBS film “The Last Abortion Clinic.” Movie night is a relaxed and informal way to learn about current issues around state legislation. “The Last Abortion Clinic” explores successful efforts by anti-choice advocates to lobby for and help pass state legislation restricting access to abortion. Since Virginia also faces state legislative maneuvers against reproductive rights each year, this is a must-see movie!

Tuesday, December 5: 7:00 pm Left of Center Virginia General Assembly 2007 Sneak Preview at the Starr Hill gallery space. Ever wonder what's really going on in Virginia's General Assembly or how to best voice your opinion? Find out what your local legislators are planning for the upcoming session, as well as their predictions for other legislation that may be introduced. In addition, you'll hear from a legislative aide on how to best lobby for the passage (or defeat) of bills you are interested in, as well as how to encourage the introduction of new legislation.

Featured Speakers: Senator Creigh Deeds, D-Bath County; Delegate David J. Toscano, D-Charlottesville; Jenny Hogan, Legislative Assistant.

Monthly meeting of the Monticello Bird Club: “Managing Piedmont Lands to Preserve Our Migratory and Resident Birds”: Faren Wolter, a wildlife biologist with the Piedmont Environmental Council, will show how we can help preserve our feathered friends by making minor changes on our lands—our pastures, shrublands, forests, wetlands, and even our croplands and developed areas.

Living Space owner Hunter Williamson is hoping an informative discussion about global warming issues will follow, and invitations have been forwarded to several community leaders and organizations.
