A victim of a sexual predator in 1973, Martin Andrews started a one-man campaign to pass, fund,and implement the Civil Commitment of Sexual Violent Predators legislation in Virginia after learning that his assailant would be released in 2003. Wednesday, January 16: 7:30 p.m. monthly meeting of Advocates for a Sustainable Albemarle Population (ASAP) in the library of Westminster Presbyterian Church (190 Rugby Road, Charlottesville) The meeting will be a primer on ecosystem services, and how understanding such services might help suggest limits to growth. The main speaker will be Claire Jantz, Ph.D., a geographer at Shippensburg University (PA) specializing in land use change modeling and the impacts of population growth. Saturday, January 19: 9:30 a.m. Monthly Albemarle / Charlottesville Democratic Breakfast. Al Weed of Public Policy Virginia will introduce Chief Ken Adams of the Upper Mattaponi Tribe of Virginia. Chief Adams will discuss the issues surrounding the long-sought and long delayed federal recognition for the tribes of Virginia. Sunday, January 20: 11:15 a.m Charlottesville Councilwoman Holly Edwards will present a free, public talk/discussion entitled Lamentations, the stories of three families' search for housing in our community. The talk will be given at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church, Unitarian-Universalist, 717 Rugby Rd. as part of the churchs Faith In Action lecture series focused on topics of community interest. Woodson Institute and the Office of African-American Affairs (at UVa) will co-host a panel discussion entitled, "Chiefly About War Matters." in the Harrison-Small Auditorium at the University of Virginia. The panel will focus on Dr. King's anti-war position, as outlined in the controversial speeches he delivered at the Riverside Church in New York City and Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, shortly before he was assassinated. Rob Spencer is Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Litigation and Compliance at Lockheed Martin Corporation. He joined Lockheed Martin in 2006 after serving as an Assistant U.S.Attorney in the United States Attorneys Office, Eastern District of Virginia. There, Spencer prosecuted terrorism and espionage cases, including United States v.
