Tuesday, February 3: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Bob Gibson, executive director of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at UVA, will host an Evening Edition live call-in program on public radio station WVTF with Attorney General Bob McDonnell, the soon-to-be Republican nominee for governor this year. WVTF is available online at http://www.wvtf.org/ and on air at 88.5 FM in Charlottesville.

Assaf Moghadam is Assistant Professor and Senior Associate at the Combating Terrorism Center (CTC) at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he directs West Point's Advanced Terrorism Studies Course and the CTC's Shia Ideology Program. He is the author of The Globalization of Martyrdom: Al Qaeda, Salafi Jihad, and the Diffusion of Suicide Attacks (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008) and The Roots of Terrorism (Chelsea House, 2006). Monday, February 9: 7:30 p.m. The Albemarle-Charlottesville Branch of The NAACP, as part of its celebration of its 100th Anniversary and Black History Month, is honored to have as its guest speaker Attorney Alex Gulotta, Executive Director of Legal Aid, Charlottesville. He will speak on the subject of “What Are Your Civil Rights.” Tonsler Park Recreation Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Thursday, February 12: 7:30 p.m. Monticello Bird Club February program “Virginia's Bird Beauties” Nature photographer Bob Schamerhorn will share his spectacular photos of Virginia’s native birds—from coastal regions to mountaintops. And there’ll be a bonus photography lesson: he’ll be sharing his experiences and giving tips on how to capture these images.

Lorne Waldman successfully acted as co-counsel for Maher Arar at the public inquiry into the circumstances behind Arar's deportation from the United States to Syria, where Arar was subjected to brutal torture. Bill Anderson is a Professional Counselor at UVA’s Student Health Center and President of the Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice (CCPJ). He is a member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation and a long-time area leader in peace and race relations in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area.

Stanton, the James Farmer Professor in Human Rights at the University of Mary Washington, is the Founder and President of Genocide Watch, the Founder and Director of the Cambodian Genocide Project, the Founder and Chair of the International Campaign to End Genocide, and the President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars. Saturday, February 21: 9:30 a.m. Regular monthly Charlottesville/Albemarle Democratic Breakfast. This month there will be a panel made up of David Slutzky, Chair of the County Board of Supervisors, Dave Norris, Mayor of Charlottesville, and Liz Palmer, member of the South Rivanna River Reservoir Task Force. The subject will be the "Water Plan." At JABA 674 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville (just east of Fashion Square and adjacent to the Marriott Courtyard). The event is free (donations gratefully appreciated), a light breakfast is offered and the public is warmly invited.
