Wednesday, August 19: 6:30 p.m. “Challenges and Opportunities in Rwanda” Professor Wendy McIntyre Chair, Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Redlands.

Rwanda is a paradox. Roughly the size of Vermont, it is one of the poorest countries on earth with almost every problem imaginable including water and food shortages, malnutrition and disease. Yet Rwanda is rich in its biodiversity, including some of the last remaining mountain gorillas. Rwanda became a household name after the 1994 genocide that claimed the lives of one in every eight people in roughly 100 days. Fifteen years later, the human population is over 10 million and there are many reasons for hope. Come learn about this tiny but remarkable country and the challenges and opportunities in the “land of one thousand hills.”
