Thursday, July 8: 2:00 p.m. in Charlottesville City Council chambers David Toscano is hosting a panel discussion on energy efficiency initiatives here in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area. Panelists include Alison Kaufmann of Dominion Virginia Power, Bill Dyer of the Charlottesville Gas Assistance Program, Kathryne Presson of the Albemarle Energy Assistance Program, and Cynthia Adams of the Local Energy Alliance Program.

Sunday, July 25: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. A traveling museum that offers an examination of the history and evolution of slavery in Florida’s fields and elsewhere in America today--its roots, the reason it persists, and its solutions. China and the World Since 2008. Brantly Womack is Professor of Foreign Affairs at U.Va. and an honorary professor at Jilin University in Changchun and East China Normal University in Shanghai. He is the co-author of "Foundations of Mao Zedong's Political Thought, 1917–1935" and "Politics in China" and the editor of numerous books, including "Contemporary Chinese Politics in Historical Perspective." W. Patrick Lang, a retired senior officer of the U.S. Military Intelligence and U.S. Army Special Forces, trained as a Middle East specialist and served there for many years. He was the first professor of Arabic at the United States Military Academy at West Point, and served as the Defense Intelligence Officer for the Middle East, South Asia, and Terrorism. Monday, September 13: 11:00 a.m. Miller Center Forum: An overview of America in the the world

William Quandt was a senior staff member on the National Security Council during the Nixon and Carter administrations, and was actively involved in the negotiations that led to the Camp David Accords and the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty. A former senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, he is the Edward R. Stettinius Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia where he teaches courses on the Middle East and American foreign policy. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including “Peace Process: American Diplomacy and the Arab-Israeli Conflict Since 1967” (Brookings, 2005, third edition). Harris, formerly of The Washington Post, is the author of a book on Bill Clinton “The Survivor,” and the co-author with Mark Halpern of “The Way to Win: Clinton, Bush, Rove and How to Take the White House in 2008.” Mike Allen is the chief political correspondent for Politico. Prior to that he was Time Magazine’s White House correspondent and spent six years at The Washington Post, where he covered President Bush's first term, Capitol Hill, campaign finance, and the Bush, Gore and Bradley campaigns of 2000. Michelle Goldberg is a journalist and author based in Brooklyn, New York. Her most recent book is “The Means of Reproduction: Sex, Power and the Future of the World" and won last year’s J. Anthony Lukas Work in Progress Award. Researched in four continents, “The Means of Reproduction” tells the story of the global battle for reproductive rights, and argues that the oppression of women is the great human rights issue of our time. Goldberg is also the author of the New York Times bestseller “Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism.” She is a columnist for The Daily Beast, and her work has appeared in the New Republic, the American Prospect, The Nation, Glamour, The Los Angeles Times and many other publications.
