George,

When I moved to Virginia from western Massachusetts I read about a First Amendment group here headed by Whitehead. Being familiar with the Institute for First Amendment Studies in Gt. Barrington, MA, I was pleased to see what I assumed was a similar group here in Virginia, so I sent a donation. Well, was I in for a surprise! Immediately I was swamped with requests for more money because Christianity was under attack in America!

Hello?! Considering the aggressiveness of the radical religious right, the attempt of a judge to put the 10 Commandments on the wall of the courtroom (what happened to separation of church and state?), I hardly think Christianity is under attack. So, I agree with Martin Davis, especially after reading of Whitehead’s defense of Joe Stack, that it’s time to tune out Whitehead. Surely there are plenty of First Amendment spokespersons of renown here in the Charlottesville area to be on panels instead of Whitehead.
