Richmond City Police have dropped their case seeking the return of documents obtained by an anarchist group through a Freedom of Information Act request. "This was the first wise decision the city has made regarding this whole matter,” said ACLU of Virginia Executive Director Kent Willis. “The city never had a legal leg to stand on and no practical means, under any circumstances, of retrieving the information once it was posted on the internet.” (Virginia ACLU, January 10, 2011)

The group, "Wingnut," had filed the request last September, and received the documents--they were procedure manuals for the Police Department. (Dave Sagarin, January 14, 2011)
