Dear George Your readers may be interested to learn how news of the latest Living Wage campaign looks to a long-time supporter who happens to be getting his news in India this month. The hunger strike was just getting underway when Betsy and I were visiting the Gandhi Museum in Madurai, which is where the Mahatma resolved in the 1920s to adopt the dhoti (poor man's simple dress). Gandhi, probably the most brilliant hunger-striker in history, understood a great deal about the connection between suffering and sympathy (and the two-way traffic between them). May his example prove auspicious in our town, and in our time!
