January 2012Monday, January 9: 6:00 p.m. Albemarle County Democratic Committee reorganization mass meeting. "This is your chance to get more involved in the party. Please go to our website to learn more about the mass meeting and reorganization." Wednesday, January 11: 7:00 p.m. Charlottesville Democratic Committee reorganization caucus, at Charlottesville High School, B-Commons. Participation is open to any person signing a declaration form stating that he or she is a Democrat, believes in the principles of the Democratic Party, does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic nominee in the ensuing general election, and is a registered voter in the City of Charlottesville. Participants will be divided by precinct to elect their respective committee members. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for check-in. Declaration forms must be completed and signed prior to the 7:00 p.m. start of the caucus; those in line but not yet admitted by 7:00 p.m. will be able to participate. Tuesday, January 24: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Screening of the film No Woman No Cry a documentary that follows women in the US and abroad as they face the challenges of pregnancy-related care. At Minor Hall, UVa, room 125. "In her gripping directorial debut, Christy Turlington Burns shares these powerful stories, including her own. The film features PPFA's Guatemala Program Officer, Dr. Linda Valencia, and Planned Parenthood's work on the front lines of reproductive health in that country." Before the screening, starting at 5:30 p.m., there will be a mini health/resource fair with information regarding reproductive health care available locally in the lobby of Minor Hall. Following the screening of the documentary there will be a short panel discussion with a question and answer segment open to the audience. The panel will include a PPHS representative, a certified nurse midwife, a local birth activist, and both the president and founder of PROSAMI. Light refreshments will be served.
