Saturday, October 1: 6:00 p.m. Fifth District Dinner in Lynchburg. Tim Kaine, former Governor and now our likely Senatorial candidate in 2012, will be the keynote speaker.

Wednesday, October 5: 6:00 p.m. League of Women Voters Charlottesville City Council Candidate Forum: City Council Chambers.

Saturday, October 15: 9:00 a.m. monthly Albemarle/Charlottesville Democrats' Breakfast will be a campaign rally and canvass! We will meet at our usual time for coffee, bagels and donuts-but in the parking lot of 300 Preston Ave, the Citizens Commonwealth Center, where the county's campaign / Deeds' campaign office is located. Our rally captain will be Tom Perriello, who, along with our candidates, will wind up the crowd to send them off to pound the pavement and knock on doors. The county campaigns will be canvassing our close-in precincts so that people don't have to drive too far to go out and back. Those who are unable to canvass will be able to phonebank from the campaign office...

Saturday, October 15: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Dog Walk and Fall Festival at Pleasant Grove, Fluvanna County, on Rte 53 2 miiles west of Rte 15. Sponsored by Caring for Creatures Animal Shelter. Full information here .

Thursday, October 20: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Charlottesville School Board candidates forum in City Council chambers. It's sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Charlottesville Dialogue on Race, and will be moderated by Charlene Green.

Friday, October 21: 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. The McIntire Botanical Garden, a local non-profit, invites you to CitySpace on the Downtown Mall to see "A Preview of the McIntire Botanical Garden Vision for the East Side of McIntire Park'. For more information, contact Helen Flamini at 434-960-6844.

Sunday, October 23: 2:00 p.m. A Memorial Service for Mary Ann Elwood at St. Paul's Memorial Church, 1700 University Avenue, Charlottesville

Monday, October 24: 6:30 p.m. The McIntire Botanical Garden will present its vision and mission as part of the public master plan process for the east side of McIntire Park at the Martin Luther King Center. For more information, contact Helen Flamini at 434-960-6844.

Wednesday, October 26: 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Charlottesville School Board candidates forum at Bavaro Hall, sponsored by Curry School of Education and the Charlottesville Newsplex.

Saturday, October 29: 6:00 p.m. Persons of renown from the worlds of politics, arts, journalism, law, and academia will gather to honor Robert O'Neil, recently retired director of the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression and president of the University of Virginia from 1985-1990.

The program includes a reception and dinner to be held in the Caplin Pavilion of the University of Virginia School of Law. It is a ticketed event with proceeds going to continue Bob's work on behalf of the causes of free speech and open government. Details on on the program including tickets prices, sponsorships, and the special guests can be found on the event website.
